Moroder Metropolis Trailer on the Way

It may seem a while since my last post but I've not been idle. I'm just completing a restored version of the trailer for Moroder's Metropolis.

I found an awful quality copy of the trailer on YouTube. Terrible to watch but it was fine as reference for me to re-build the trailer.

The visuals and soundtrack are all from my restored version of course. All I  have to do now is re-created the voice over and I'll post it. There was absolutely no way I could use the voiceover from the YouTube clip.

In other news, I am also finishing off a new DVD bonus insert.

This original 8 page booklette features the new DVD cover, stills from the movie, a 2 page article on the history of the Metropolis movie, all the lyrics from the film (they're very different from the soundtrack CD), and a 2 page article from the 80s on Giorgio Moroder and the Metropolis soundtrack.

It's a perfect companion to the restored DVD. And it's not available at a store near you :-)

Freder meets the M-Machine in the Metropolis undercity

Another viewer request is now online. This clip feaures Freder (Gustav Froehlich) discovering the huge M-Machine when he descends into the Worker's undercity to find Maria. The machine explodes and Freder sees it turn into the Moloch in a vision.

Pat Benatar's "Here's My Heart" Clip

Following a request from a fan, here's a clip of Pat Benatar's hauntingly pure version of "Here's My Heart" from the first part of Metropolis. Enjoy.

I recently discovered that there was a video release of Bonny Tyler's "Here She Comes" which used footage from Metropolis. There's also a version she did which is more traditional music video and has no Metropolis clips.

Are they both official releases? Not sure. They seem to be.

The video quality of the Metropolis version is, as you can imagine, pretty bad. If anyone out htere would like to see a version using the restored Redux footage, let me know and I'll kill an evening producing something :-)

Some people have had trouble finding my email address. I can be contacted at metropolis-redux (at) gmail.com or see www.morodermetropolisdvd.com

I only check this email address about once a week though.

Please do not ask for a copy of the DVD if you're in Europe or the EU. Metropolis is still under copyright until sometime around 2025!

Better Effects in Metropolis Redux

I've still been making incremental improvements to the Metropolis Redux film. Below you'll find an example from the Maria-Robot Transformation Scene.

(Metropolis is still under copyright in Europe and the EU. In Australia, Japan and New Zealand it is out of copyright. It's also in the public domain in the US. Confused? Best to email me at metropolisredux (at) gmail.com to get the lastest update).

I spent about two days adding the purple colouring to the 'light rings' and other little colour effects. I'd previously resisted added these in, as they're ... well ... boring to do. It required about 12 layers with masks - all moving individually. I'm still walking that fine line between recreating Giorgio's work and adding that little bit extra that is now possible using modern technology.
